Playing darts and munching on a Double Decker at The Dell pub, Matt Le Tissier is back in his element. The Southampton legend has returned to his old club and says, in this exclusive interview, that he views the move as a “kickback” against cancel culture.
Le Tissier stepped down from working as an ambassador at Southampton in 2022 following a backlash against a social media post which appeared to question whether war reports describing massacres in Ukraine could be believed. He apologised for highlighting the post, but decided to step away himself.
He has recently officially returned to Southampton, where he now hosts a podcast, is back working as an ambassador and is also offering football advice to a new generation of players.

But the 57-year-old, one of football’s last mavericks, remains defiant.

‘Never saw him bowl a no ball’
After reading Simon Briggs’sinterview with England and Essex bowler John ‘JK’ Lever,Steve Bardellreveals fond memories of watching him tearing in at Chelmsford:“Spent many happy hours in the Seventies and Eighties watching JK bowl. He’d bowl for hours and the trail of footmarks were all the same size as his boot. Never saw him bowl a no ball. Derek Pringle would come on and after three overs it looked like a ploughed field, with at least one no ball an over. But strangely he was the one who got picked for England most of the time.”
