Rodrigo is currently promoting her newest album,you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. During her evening at the helm of the iconic sketch show, she sang her recent hit, “drop dead,” as well as debuting a new song, “begged.”

And she also sang quite a bit in her sketches, performing characters with some strong vocals, including a parody of her song “Driver’s License” in the opening monologue. She also recorded a pre-taped sketch about her bedroom and sang again across from Marcello Hernandez.

Rodrigo also took a moment to joke in her opening monologue about her time on Disney Channel seriesBizaardvarkwhen she was just 13 years old across from viral influencer Jake Paul.

“I’d say, ‘I really wanna create music that explores the complexities of girls my age,’ and he’d say, ‘Well, one day I really wanna beat up old guys on Netflix,’” she joked, before adding, “And we both did it, hooray!”

But the star didn’t just rely on her incredible voice. She took the lead in several classic sketches. In “My Ex” she played cast member Ben Marshall’s ex, meeting at a mutual friend’s birthday party and attempting to one-up one another with fake dating prospects.

Rodrigo had two surprise celebrity guests on her episode to introduce her two songs. The first was recentSNLhost andHeated RivalrystarConnor Storrie, who introduced “begged.” For “drop dead,” Blondie singer Debbie Harry stepped in. It was a big night for fans of both music and sketch comedy.
