The pair met in 1975, when Jeff was filmingRancho Deluxe. Shooting took place in Paradise Valley, Mont., where Susan worked as a waitress. During a 2018 appearance onSunday Today with Willie Geist, theTron: Aresstar recalled that he "couldn't take my eyes off of her."
Though Susan initially turned him down, things worked out, as shebecame the love of Jeff's life. They wed on June 5, 1977, and laterwelcomed three daughters: Isabelle, Jessica and Hayley.
Over the years, the couple have overcome tough moments, including when Jeff wasdiagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphomain October 2020. TheOscar-winning actor announced in September 2021 that hewas in remissionand revealed he endured alife-threatening time with COVIDwhile undergoing chemotherapy.
Of course, Susan was by his side, recalling for PEOPLE's cover story in June 2022 that she told doctors to "save his life, no matter what you have to do."
"We love each other, butwe really like each other. I was 21 when we met. We were kids. And we still feel like kids," Susan said, with Jeff adding, "We don't have to do much. Just being in the same vicinity feels wonderful."
